Butterflies, Dragonflies & Insects

Kingdom Animalia, phylum Arthropoda, class Insecta.

As you sailed further north into the tropics, the prevalence of butterflies and dragonflies has increased.

On the northern end of Curtis Island, near Pacific Creek (just north of the Tropic of Capricorn) we found a (recently deceased) dragonfly on the beach, so I was able to take him back to the boat for some close up photos:


In the Percy island and the Whitsundays, the most common butterfly is the Blue Tiger:


During a bush walk around Dunk Island, there was a rainforest creek FULL of water-spider-thingies:


And the hundreds (thousands?) of winged critters we’ve spotted in the south east Asian jungle! See the jungle critters post for more info.
