Plants don’t excite me as much as animals, but there are still some cool plants around. And if I learn anything about plant-based “bush tucker”, I’ll post that here too.
Coconut trees aren’t native to the QLD coast, and they pose a hazard to humans (because a falling coconut tree can kill you!) so it makes public liability insurance VERY expensive to have pretty coconut trees lining the foreshore. So apparently many regional councils and national park areas have started to chop them down! I met a lady who started a FB page dedicated to saving the coconut trees around Mission Beach and Dunk Island.
In some parts of Indonesia, coconuts, are called galapa and are offered as hospitality in the same way you would offer someone a cup of tea…
